What exactly is Matcha?
What exactly is Matcha? How do you appreciate this beautiful green tea? Well hello readers, I am back with some more meaningful information. We all know that Matcha is a vibrant, green looking tea that has been all over the internet, But do you know what exactly it is? Lets get into it!
What is Matcha?
The word 'Matcha' means 'ground tea' in Japanese. It is a powder made from grounding green tea leaves, finely powdered and is often brewed into tea. Matcha is the only tea where the entire leaf is used during its production. It has a slight bitter and natural taste with a smooth and sweet feel. The vibrancy in the colour of the tea is due to high amount of chlorophyll present in the leaves. Pre-shade harvesting helps the tea plant to produce more chlorophyll, hence giving us the brighter coloured tea.
In earlier times, Tea was usually consumed as a medicine. Because it has lots of beneficial properties, people have adapted it in their daily lives. Matcha is the only variety in which the tea leaves are not discarded, instead it is prepared in such a way that you actually consume the entire leaf when you savor it. Through its production process we understand that the antioxidants in the tea are still preserved. So, having just 1 cup of Matcha a day is equal to gaining antioxidants that may be present in 10 cups of regular brewed green tea. Also, Catechin EGCG found in Matcha helps to cut down the fat content in the body and that is the main reason why Matcha is included in a lot of healthy diets. Moreover, it increases focus and calms mind which in turn helps to increase concentration.
